Things to do around town…

  • The Peach Stand. For the most iconic taste of Fort Mill, you don't want to miss The Peach Stand. Located about two miles from Adkins Nature Retreat, headed into downtown Fort Mill, The Peach Stand is your one stop for everything fresh and local. There fresh produce, a bakery, custom butcher shop, ice cream shop and restaurant. The restaurant is open Monday-Saturday and serves breakfast and lunch until 2pm.

    Kingsley. There are a number of restaurants at Kingsley, located about a mile and a half headed into downtown Fort Mill. Taco Molino, Napa and Brixx are on the regular for us. Spice is good and Epic Chophouse. There is a Starbucks and Panera there, and a Y2 yoga to work off the culinary delight!

    John's Place. Located at 940 Gold Hill Rd, next to the Publix, local dive bar John's Place is a bar attached to a gas station located next to the KOA campground. While John's Place has grown in popularity with Fort Mill's growth, it is still a bar attached to a gas station located next to the KOA campground! There is generally a band playing Saturday nights and karaoke every Friday night. Pool tables and dart boards, all walks and talks. A must do night cap! There is an ABC attached as well.

    The Improper Pig Housed in the location of my Grandfather’s old store, The Improper Pig brings favorite BBQ styles from around the world to downtown Fort Mill. For vegetarians, there are plenty of tasty fixins and sides too!

    Amor Artis Brewing. Housed next door to the location of my Grandfather’s old store, Amor Artis Brewing is a family-owned, quality-focused, community-based brewery located in historic downtown Fort Mill.

    The Ebenezer Grill. Open Thursday, Friday, Saturday 6:30-2pm, the institution that The Peach Stand is to Rock Hill, The Ebenezer Grill is the same to Rock Hill. The best breakfast plate, and hotdog/crinkle fry/cole slaw lunch there is. Local flavor and service you don't want to miss if you can help it. You might even get lucky and be asked to join for a hand of cards at closing. Read more here.

    The Pump House: Located 12 minutes from Adkins Nature Retreat, in a building that formerly housed the Celanese Celiver Plant, The Pump House is situated in five stories along the banks of the beautiful Catawba River, The Pump House features hand-crafted signature cocktails, a wine spectator award-winning wine list, and a southern-inspired chophouse menu.

  • Downtown Fort Mill: Downtown Fort Mill is small and charming. A great place to walk around and see some Fort Mill history, including historical buildings. There are a number of restaurants and shops including, Armor Artis Brewing and The Improper Pig which is housed in the building that used to be my Grandfather's shop of 43 years, The Easy Pay Store. If you feel like getting seeing more of the family history, hop on over to the Fort Mill Police Department, located just across Confederate St behind the Improper Pig, where you can see my Grandfather's plaque on the wall of the Fort Mill Hall of Fame.

    Fort Mill History Museum: Located in the heart of downtown, The Fort Mill History Museum is a museum rich in the history of Fort Mill!

    Anne Springs Close Greenway. Anne Springs Close Greenway is located just down the road and is an outdoor playground. It is great for hiking, trail running, mountain biking, horseback riding, kayaking and more. The Lake Haigler entrance is just about a mile and a half away door to door. There is a food and a bar with beer taps located at the new Gateway Canteen and during the summer months music regularly.

    Downtown Rock Hill: Located just about 15 minutes from Adkins Nature Retreat, Downtown Rock Hill, also known as Old Town, is the heart of Rock Hill including the area spanning the city's historic downtown to Winthrop University and the city's original neighborhoods.

Our family first settled in Fort Mill in 1866. From 1943-1986, everyone in Fort Mill shopped at my Grandfather’s store, The Easy Pay Store.
